Art Installation!

I'm not sure where the exact idea for this latest project came from, but I'm certain this amazing post had something to do with it!  We needed something huge to fill the large blank dining room wall - it was especially important to get right as it's a focal point for not only the dining room but also for the kitchen.  After searching online, I found this amazing Manet work:

I loved it for several reasons: Manet is an all-time favourite.  I've studied his work extensively in university and always loved his racing scenes.  It's equestrian without being obvious. The colours are great and make an older painting seem bright and modern.  It's orientation is perfect too, as I wanted something to fill the length of the wall.

My sister took care of the printing for me (she had it completed locally).  It was printed on three pieces of heavy, plasticised paper that could probably be permanently installed as wallpaper. It took two attempts and a lot of work on her part to get the colour printed correctly but it was so worth the effort!

During the install!  We started with the middle panel, making sure it was level and centered with the middle pendant (there will eventually be three, as you can probably tell from the ceiling!)

And installed!

We installed the panels using silver upholstery nails.  Their finish picks up on the hardware in both the kitchen and dining room.

This room still needs a lot of work: curtains, painted bar stools, a new table, refinished and reupholstered chairs, built-ins finished and filled.  But this installation (along with FINALLY finishing painting this room) are a great step forward!
