Basement Overhaul - Complete!
A few months ago, I shared the early stages of our basement family room overhaul. Just as a reminder, here's what the room looked like before we purchased our house:
I'm happy to finally say that the majority of this room is now complete! After removing the carpet, we painted almost every surface in the room, laid a proper subfloor and installed beautiful laminate flooring. Since this room is where we watch TV and enjoy warm fires in the winter, we wanted to make it comfortable and cozy. We purchased a really fantastic sectional (from La-Z-Boy), found a huge area rug and occasional chairs at a recent auction, and incorporated lots of framed photographs and paintings.

And here it is! Definitely an improvement.
Refinishing that credenza was such a lot of work... and I'm proud of it every single time I see it.
Comfy sectional... decorated with pillows I made myself!
This gallery wall changes all the time... right now, it's a mix of photos, prints, a collage project and two amazing landscape paintings from an auction.
I really love this family room now. I love that we did all the work ourselves, and in only a few weekends. It was a manageable project that completely transformed the room. We've had several parties down here, epic HBO marathons, great naps in front of a warm fire... It's become a really fantastic space. There's still a little work to be done (the whole other half of the room, which is where I'm standing, is basically empty). I've got a few plans for getting that area in shape though, and will report on the results when improvements start to take shape!
